Pokerstars

Pokerstars is one of the most popular online rooms and regularly gets top ratings from reviewers and the general public. This review won’t change that in any major way. The software used on the site is as good as any found among the dozens of Web-based poker rooms. It’s better than many.

In addition, Pokerstars continues to offer attractive bonuses and promotions that players of all levels will enjoy. About the only drawback of operating on such a large scale, with the number of players this site attracts, is that the level of competition is not as strong as some of the other major sites. But then, that might be a positive factor for those who select their sites and tables based on “fish” content.

Not a Newcomer

There are a few online poker rooms that have been operating longer than this one, but only a few. Pokerstars was established in 2001 and has been the stepping stone for two World Series of Poker champions. In the years the site has been offering real-money games it has grown to serve as many as 100,000 tournament players during busy sessions.

The level of experience/skill was very high at one time in Pokerstars history but most of the tough competition is at higher limits now. Good players should still be able to find success at lower levels.

As mentioned earlier, the software used at Pokerstars is more than just functional. It is very stable and efficient. Larger tournaments don’t seem to tax the system much at all. Real-time statistics are extensive and reliable.

Extras

The site attracts new players with a solid Welcome bonus and occasionally provides a re-load bonus to hang onto its large customer base. Pokerstars is now offering a $600 sign-up bonus and continues its popular Frequent Player Points program. Daniel Negreanu is associated with this site and has his own high-stakes, cash-game room (if you are interested!). There are always some fun and exciting special games and tournaments to be found in the Promotions section.

You’ll also find a nice variety of poker types here. In addition to the standard Hold ‘Em and Omaha, Pokerstars offers stud, 2-7 games and HORSE.

New players should find the registration process and deposit options easy to use. It may be a good idea to check the “Getting Started” link to become familiar with the process. The steps are clearly explained in text and graphic styles. All things considered this is a professionally designed and operated site that can be a great place to play online poker.
