Poker Celebrities
Backroom Poker Wonders?
At one time in their lives, all famous athletes, movie stars and musicians were known only to family members and a few friends. This also applies to the professional poker players of the 21st century who have become celebrities thanks to the massive amount of television coverage given to the game of poker. Somewhere in the distant past the most recognizable and successful players were known only to a couple of dozen others in a local card room or in a home game.
Being a great player didn’t always bring celebrity status. Guys like Doyle Brunson, Puggy Pearson, Johnny Moss, Crandell Addington and others were known and often feared among regulars in the poker rooms of years past, but most of them didn’t reach anything like the celebrity status that is accorded to tournament players today. Brunson is an exception among his peers and age group.
